Should the search for ganglia in the distal rectal fistula in patients with anorectal malformation be abandoned?

Retrospective case series of 40 ARM patients questions routine ganglion cell search in distal rectal specimens, finding 66.5% false-negative results with no clinical Hirschsprung cases at follow-up. Authors argue the practice should be abandoned given rare disease co-occurrence and high laboratory costs.
