Risk of Hospitalizations Following Gastrostomy in Children with Intellectual Disability.

Retrospective cohort study of 673 children with severe intellectual disability found gastrostomy insertion reduced all-cause and epilepsy hospitalizations by 30-37% at 5 years post-procedure, but did not protect against acute lower respiratory tract infections. Fundoplication appeared to mitigate LRTI risk in combined cohorts.
