Salivary biomarker for acute appendicitis in children: a pilot study
Topic overview
Pilot study evaluates salivary leucine-rich-alpha-2-glycoprotein (LRG) as a non-invasive diagnostic tool for acute appendicitis in children aged 4-16. At cutoff 0.33 ng/μg, salivary LRG achieved 100% specificity but only 35% sensitivity, suggesting potential as a rule-in test that requires validation in larger cohorts.
