Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy After Cardiothoracic Surgery in Children Less Than 2 Months Old: An Assessment of Long-Term Malnutrition Status and Gastrostomy Outcomes.

Retrospective study of 222 infants under 2 months with congenital heart disease found that percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy placement after cardiothoracic surgery was safe and associated with improved growth velocity, though moderate-severe malnutrition persisted in many patients at 6-month and 1-year follow-up. Children with univentricular physiology showed particularly significant nutritional benefits from gastrostomy placement.
