The incidence of venous thromboembolism in children following colorectal resection for inflammatory bowel disease: A multi-center study
Topic overview
This multicenter retrospective study of 276 pediatric IBD patients undergoing colorectal resection found a 4.3% postoperative VTE incidence, predominantly portomesenteric thrombosis. Emergent procedures, perioperative plasma transfusion, and postoperative infections were significant risk factors, while chemoprophylaxis showed no protective effect but was rarely utilized.
