Abdominal compartment syndrome and decompressive laparotomy in children: a 9-year single-center experience

This 9-year retrospective study of 418 pediatric emergency laparotomies identified 14 cases of abdominal compartment syndrome requiring decompressive laparotomy, with 57% mortality. Risk factors for death included age under 1 year, low weight, intestinal resection, and elevated lactate, emphasizing the critical need for early diagnosis and prompt surgical intervention.
