Comparison of inflammatory stress response between laparoscopic and open approach for pediatric inguinal hernia repair in children.

Randomized trial of 32 pediatric patients demonstrates laparoscopic PIRS technique produces significantly lower inflammatory stress response than open Marcy repair, with reduced WBC, CRP, and IL-6 levels, shorter operative time (9 vs 25 min), and lower pain scores. Findings support laparoscopic approach as less traumatic for pediatric inguinal hernia repair.
