Age-related mortality in abusive head trauma.
Topic overview
Retrospective study of 5 years of pediatric inpatient data reveals that toddlers (2-4 years) with abusive head trauma have significantly higher mortality than infants, contrasting with accidental trauma where younger children fare worse. Cerebral edema and internal injuries predominate in older victims, while fractures and hemorrhages are more common in infants.
