Accelerated cell turnover 48 h after intestinal ischemia is NOTCH independent

Rat model study demonstrates that accelerated intestinal epithelial cell turnover 48 hours post-ischemia-reperfusion injury occurs independently of Notch signaling, with decreased Notch-1 and Hes-1 expression coinciding with increased proliferation and apoptosis. Findings suggest intestinal recovery favors secretory over absorptive cell differentiation during this phase.
