Retrospective study of 605 cloacal patients found 12.7% were misdiagnosed as disorders of sex development, leading to unnecessary interventions including karyotyping and hormonal treatment. Careful perineal examination distinguishing true clitoral hypertrophy from prominent labial skin prevents misdiagnosis and inappropriate management.
