Ectopic ureters in anorectal malformations
Topic overview
This retrospective study of 2,283 anorectal malformation patients found 3.5% had ectopic ureters, most commonly inserting at the bladder neck, vagina, or urethra. Ureteral ectopia was associated with high rates of renal dysfunction (59% ipsilateral, 29% contralateral) and increased renal failure risk requiring transplant in 2.5% versus 0.6% in patients without ectopic ureters.
