Altered ryanodine receptor gene expression in Hirschsprung’s disease

Study reveals significant downregulation of Ryr1 and Ryr3 ryanodine receptor genes in both aganglionic and ganglionic colon segments of Hirschsprung's disease patients. Findings suggest these calcium-signaling genes play a critical role in colonic smooth-muscle function and may explain persistent bowel symptoms after pull-through surgery.
