Topic overview

I read with interest the report by Janssen et al [1], showing a strong link between congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) and undescended testes (UDT), both congenital and acquired. The authors cite five possible causal mechanisms between CDH and UDT, including absence of diaphragm tissue close to the urogenital ridge, leading to both CDH and UDT. Another possible cause was possible scar formation after surgical correction of the diaphragm pulling up the retroperineum, leading to ascending, acquired UDT.
