Outcomes of infants with congenital diaphragmatic hernia treated with venovenous versus venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation: A propensity score approach

Propensity-matched analysis of 3,304 CDH infants found no overall mortality difference between VA and VV ECMO modes. However, timing of diaphragmatic repair matters: VA ECMO favored survival in pre-ECMO repair cases, while VV ECMO reduced severe neurologic injury in infants repaired after ECMO initiation, suggesting mode selection should be individualized.
