The impact of abnormal BMI on surgical complications after pediatric colorectal surgery

This NSQIP-Pediatric database study of 858 children undergoing elective colorectal surgery for IBD found that obesity and overweight status significantly increased wound complications, particularly deep incisional SSI and wound disruption. Each 1.0 kg/m² BMI increase was associated with 4.3% higher risk of deep SSI, suggesting preoperative weight optimization may reduce infectious complications.
