We thank Professor Hutson for his interest in our contribution to the BAPS issue of the journal [1] and agree with him that our choice of experimental animals' age would have been poor if we aimed to solely study early postnatal oesophageal growth. It may however have escaped Professor Hutson's notice that our study extends beyond oesophageal atresia repair into other oesophageal diseases, as exemplified in the introduction and discussion.
