Surgical management of pediatric thyroid disease: Complication rates after thyroidectomy at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia high-volume Pediatric Thyroid Center

Retrospective review of 464 pediatric thyroidectomies at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia demonstrates low complication rates: 0.4% permanent vocal cord injury, 0.6% permanent hypoparathyroidism. Graves disease patients showed higher hematoma risk. Outcomes support referral to high-volume pediatric centers for thyroid surgery.
