Study identifies ACTG2 gene variants in 64% of Hirschsprung disease patients, suggesting smooth muscle dysfunction contributes to pathology beyond neural deficits. Findings challenge the purely neurological model and may explain post-surgical pseudo-obstruction in some patients.
