Topic overview

We thank Dr. Robbins for his Letter to the Editor regarding our retrospective review of opioid prescribing practices following pediatric hernia repair and tonsillectomy at our institution [1]. We agree with his assertion regarding the necessity and timeliness of this line of research and feel strongly that the physician's role in opioid misuse and diversion should be evaluated. In our study, we sought to quantify baseline opioid prescribing characteristics after our two most common procedures in preparation to enact interventions (in press, JPS) to improve these prescribing practices.
