Topic overview
The recent article by Taylor et al. [1] set out to describe the incidence, timing, and predictors of recurrence following inguinal hernia repair in children and correctly identified that most occurred in those less than 1 year of age and in those with multiple co-morbidities. They suggested that prospective data collection would be advantageous and might shed more light on the causes. This study has already been conducted [2]. The authors (and your readers) may be interested to know that a prospective study of 2471 boys with this condition looked specifically at factors that predicted an increased likelihood of later recurrence.
