Topic overview

We read with great interest the recent article “Testicular pain in children: Near-infrared spectroscopy cannot differentially diagnose underlying” by Carolina et al. evaluating the role of trans-scrotal near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) in children with acute scrotal pain [1]. The conclusion of this article is that NIRS is not suitable to diagnose testicular torsion (TT) in children in clinical practice. We fully agree with this conclusion, yet we believe it deserves further reinforcement.
