Topic overview

Thank you for your comments and constructive feedback regarding our recently published manuscript titled “Open tunneled central line insertion in children – External or internal jugular vein?”. We certainly agree that external jugular vein (EJV) access allows preservation of the deep veins of the neck and this should be the primary consideration when attempting open tunneled central venous catheter (TCVC) insertion. Although we highlighted this early in our discussion, perhaps it is a crucial point that deserved further elaboration.
