Retrospective review of 118 thyroidectomies in pediatric patients demonstrates that pediatric surgeons can safely perform thyroid surgery with a 4.2% permanent complication rate, comparable to published benchmarks. Most cases involved thyroid nodules with 37% malignancy rate; outcomes support a multidisciplinary team approach for pediatric thyroid pathology.
