Reproductive Function and Fertility Preservation in Female Children, Girls, and Adolescents After Appendicular Pelvic Peritonitis: May There Be a Place for Transitional Care?

Appendicular peritonitis is a common surgical emergency in pediatric patients [1]. Peritonitis may spread to the pelvis, involving internal genitalia and gonads in females. However, the long-term effects on reproductive function and fertility after resolution are not yet well defined. This involvement causes an acute inflammatory process and sometimes infection, potentially injuring the function of the internal genitalia and gonads on the long-term.
