Currently, there is no validated reporting system for postoperative complications in pediatric surgery [1,2]. The Clavien-Dindo classification (CDC) is the most commonly used for postoperative surgical complications (Table 1) [1,3]. This tool was developed and validated for adult general abdominal surgery [3]. However, the CDC is frequently adopted in other specialties, even within the field of pediatric surgery [1]. Moreover, according to a recent systematic review CDC was used in all the pediatric studies that adopted a reporting system for postoperative complications [1].
