The heart rate variability-derived Newborn Infant Parasympathetic Evaluation (NIPE) monitor has been designed to be an objective, non-invasive tool for the assessment of pain and discomfort in children under 2 years of age. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the ability of NIPE to assess pain in neonates and infants during surgical and/or painful procedures.
