Invited Commentary on ChatGPT: What Every Pediatric Surgeon Should Know About Its Potential Uses and Pitfalls

Adoption of artificial intelligence tools, including ChatGPT and similar large language models (LLMs), is occurring on a massive scale by the healthcare industry, physicians, and even our patients. LLMs can impressively fill gaps in communication, knowledge, skill, and time. ChatGPT can “think” of things that we don't, assess pain points in our workday with suggested strategies for solving problems, and it does so in seconds. In practice, it can reduce administrative burdens by creating care summaries, analyze records for proper coding and billing, and interpret our x-rays and pathology slides faster than humans.
