We have read with great interest the article recently published by Davenport, et al,[1] on "Academic production in pediatric surgery in the United Kingdom (2005-2020): A cause for concern?", in which the volume of scientific production in the United Kingdom developed in the field of pediatric surgery in the last fifteen years is evaluated. This analysis gives us an idea of the current situation of the specialty and identifies the obstacles related to the process of creation and publication of articles; denoting a reduction in the volume of publications produced since 2005, predominantly confined to university cloisters, and limited by excessive bureaucratic procedures, difficulties in financing or little relevance, either of the researcher himself/herself or of the institution to which he belongs.
