Letter to the Editor Regarding Patient-Reported Physical and Psychosocial Significance of Abdominal Scarring in Anorectal Malformations

We read with interest the article by Tofft, et al, regarding the physical and psychosocial impact of scar formation following surgery for Anorectal Malformation (ARM) [1]. In our recent publication [2], we discuss the psychosocial concerns of ARM patients by age with adolescent and young adults reporting impacts of their chronic condition on sexual functioning and relationships. In the Tofft paper, the authors note altered behavior, including always wearing full clothing to conceal scars, in one-third of the ARM patients with scarring [3].
