We read with great interest Ishida et al.’s recent work [1] regarding the use of angiography in pediatric patients with blunt splenic and hepatic injury. The role of angiography remains a timely and important topic in pediatric trauma, but prospective data is lacking to establish the ideal application of this technology. The authors queried Japan's national trauma registry for patients ≤ 19 years old who incurred severe blunt splenic and hepatic trauma. Using a 1:1 propensity score matching analysis, they compared the mortality of patients who underwent abdominal angiography to those who did not.
