In brief
This article examines CD117 expression patterns in mesenchymal stem cells derived from amniotic fluid and placental tissue. These fetal MSC sources offer advantages for regenerative medicine applications due to their accessibility through minimally invasive prenatal procedures and their inherent plasticity and multilineage differentiation potential.
Written by the GCMD Library team from the article.
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been extensively studied for over half a century. Their plasticity, self-renewal, and multilineage potential have generated unremitting interest in their use in regenerative therapy strategies. Fetal MSCs isolated from the amniotic fluid and placenta have been favored for perinatal applications largely because amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling are minimally invasive and acceptably safe procedures.
