In brief
This correspondence responds to methodological critique regarding experimental animal age selection in oesophageal research. The authors clarify their study scope extends beyond early postnatal oesophageal growth to encompass broader oesophageal disease applications, justifying their model selection.

We thank Professor Hutson for his interest in our contribution to the BAPS issue of the journal [1] and agree with him that our choice of experimental animals' age would have been poor if we aimed to solely study early postnatal oesophageal growth. It may however have escaped Professor Hutson's notice that our study extends beyond oesophageal atresia repair into other oesophageal diseases, as exemplified in the introduction and discussion.
