In brief
This letter responds to a published surgical technique article on hepatoportoenterostomy for biliary atresia. The authors commend the quality of anatomical images demonstrating portal structure dissection while offering additional commentary on the complex surgical approach to this challenging pediatric condition.
Written by the GCMD Library team from the article.
With our interest in biliary atresia (BA) and its surgical treatment, we were delighted to read the article by de Carvalho, et al. describing their technique for hepatoportoenterostomy (HPE) [1]. The Authors provide high quality images of their exposure and dissection of the portal structures and these are excellent guides to the complex anatomy of this challenging area. After review of the manuscript, we feel that some comments regarding the article are warranted.
