In brief

In brief

Letter responding to Taylor et al.'s study on inguinal hernia recurrence in children, noting that a prospective study of 2,471 boys has already examined recurrence predictors. The referenced study specifically identified factors associated with increased recurrence risk in pediatric inguinal hernia repair.

The recent article by Taylor et al. [1] set out to describe the incidence, timing, and predictors of recurrence following inguinal hernia repair in children and correctly identified that most occurred in those less than 1 year of age and in those with multiple co-morbidities. They suggested that prospective data collection would be advantageous and might shed more light on the causes. This study has already been conducted [2]. The authors (and your readers) may be interested to know that a prospective study of 2471 boys with this condition looked specifically at factors that predicted an increased likelihood of later recurrence.
