This article presents wound care guidelines for pilonidal disease management in adolescents and young adults, drawing from a decade of experience at a specialized pediatric pilonidal clinic. It addresses a gap in outpatient wound care literature for healthy adolescent patients with this infectious and inflammatory condition.

  • Pilonidal disease primarily affects adolescents and young adults, requiring specialized wound care management.
  • Most pilonidal disease cases involve wound care as part of the treatment pathway before resolution.
  • Outpatient wound care literature for healthy adolescents is limited, creating knowledge gaps in management.
  • Specialized pilonidal disease clinics with dedicated wound care expertise improve patient outcomes.
  • A multidisciplinary approach integrating wound care specialists enhances pilonidal disease management.
