In brief
In brief
This multicenter randomized trial evaluates a novel subvacuum dressing system against standard silicone foam (Mepilex®XT) for treating superficial second-degree burns in pediatric patients. The study addresses critical challenges in pediatric burn care including healing time, infection prevention, and patient comfort through comparative effectiveness research.
- Superficial second-degree burns in children require dressings that minimize healing time, infection risk, and discomfort.
- Self-adhesive silicone foam (Mepilex®XT) is an established advanced synthetic dressing for pediatric burn management.
- A novel subvacuum dressing was evaluated for non-inferiority compared to Mepilex®XT in treating these burns.
- The study design was prospective, randomized, and multicenter to assess efficacy and safety outcomes.
- Novel dressing technologies may offer alternative approaches to optimize pediatric burn wound healing.

Superficial second-degree burns pose major clinical challenges, including extended healing time duration, infection risk, and patient discomfort. Although advanced synthetic dressings such as self-adhesive silicone foam (Mepilex®XT) improve outcomes, novel interventions require evaluation. This study compares efficacy and safety between a novel subvacuum dressing and Mepilex®XT in managing superficial second-degree burns in children. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the novel subvacuum dressing for superficial second-degree burns is non-inferior to Mepilex®XT.
