Invited Commentary on Moturu, et al.: Identifying Quality Improvement Targets After Pediatric Gastrostomy Tube Insertion: A NSQIP-Pediatric Pilot Study
Abstract
Gastrostomy tube insertion continues to be one of the most common operations performed by pediatric surgeons across the nation. Yet, best practices remain to be established for evaluating candidacy, operative approach, and management of post-operative complications related to gastrostomy tube placement. In analyzing the first available pilot data on gastrostomy tube placement from the American College of Surgeons NSQIP- Pediatric Program, the authors address a notable research gap by examining outcomes and resource utilization for pediatric gastrostomy tubes at a national level.
