Esophageal Blood Flow May Not Be Directly Influenced by Anastomotic Tension: An Exploratory Laser Doppler Study in Swine

Swine model study challenges conventional wisdom that anastomotic tension directly impairs esophageal blood flow. Laser Doppler measurements show tissue perfusion is reduced by surgical division/reanastomosis itself but not by resection extent, suggesting anastomotic leaks and stenosis may have alternative etiologies beyond ischemia.
