Infants with esophageal atresia and right aortic arch: Characteristics and outcomes from the Midwest Pediatric Surgery Consortium

Multi-institutional study of 396 infants finds 5% incidence of right aortic arch (RAA) in esophageal atresia cases, with RAA patients showing lower birth weight, earlier gestational age, and higher rates of congenital heart disease. Surgical repair via thoracotomy is feasible from either side, though right-sided approach may increase anastomotic stricture risk.
