Children with Hirschsprung disease exhibited alterations in host–microbial co-metabolism after pull-through operation

This NMR spectroscopy study reveals altered fecal metabolomes in children under 5 following Hirschsprung disease pull-through surgery, with distinct metabolic profiles between those with and without HAEC. Significant decreases in key metabolites and disrupted amino acid metabolism pathways suggest ongoing host-microbial co-metabolism changes that may impact intestinal function and integrity post-operatively.
