Association between bacterial resistance profile and the development of intra-abdominal abscesses in pediatric patients with perforated appendicitis: cohort study

This prospective cohort study of 232 pediatric patients with perforated appendicitis found no association between bacterial resistance to empiric antibiotics and postoperative abscess development. High-risk patient status at admission was the primary predictor of intra-abdominal abscess formation.
