Esophageal Diameters in Children Correlated to Body Weight

German study establishes weight-based reference ranges for pediatric esophageal diameter using upper GI studies in 38 children, providing evidence-based targets for balloon dilatation of stenoses following esophageal atresia repair or caustic injury. Linear correlation shows esophageal diameter increases from 6.75mm at 2.6kg to 14mm at 74kg body weight.
