Patent processus vaginalis: role of ultrasound in pediatric population with unilateral inguinal hernia and other predictors

This prospective study evaluates ultrasound accuracy for detecting contralateral patent processus vaginalis in pediatric patients with unilateral inguinal hernia, using laparoscopic confirmation. Results show 90.1% accuracy for ultrasound, with infants under 1 year, right-sided hernias, and defects >10mm identified as significant predictors of contralateral involvement.
