Pediatric Dog Bite Injuries in Central Texas

Retrospective study of 102 pediatric dog bite cases in Central Texas found preschool-aged children (2-5 years) at highest risk, with 92% of injuries involving the head-neck region and 72% classified as major severity. Pit bulls were the most common breed involved (36%), with 42% of attacks from pet dogs occurring at home during evening hours, requiring operative intervention in one-third of cases.
