Mortality and neurodevelopmental outcomes in very low birth weight infants with esophageal atresia

This multicenter Japanese study examines survival and neurodevelopmental outcomes in 103 very low birth weight infants with esophageal atresia. NICU survival was 68%, with mortality risk increasing at lower birth weights and with associated anomalies; among survivors, 35% showed neurodevelopmental impairment at 3 years.
