Pneumonia after Repair of Esophageal Atresia–Incidence and Main Risk Factors

Retrospective study of 104 esophageal atresia patients found 34% developed pneumonia in first 5 years post-repair, with highest incidence before age 3. Independent risk factors included recurrent respiratory infections and multiple anastomotic dilatations, suggesting these patients warrant enhanced surveillance.
