Is Intraoperative Fluoroscopy Necessary for Central Venous Port System Placement in Children?

Prospective study of 30 pediatric patients demonstrates that ultrasound guidance combined with anatomic landmarks achieves optimal catheter tip placement for central venous ports without intraoperative fluoroscopy. The technique showed 0.95 correlation with fluoroscopy-confirmed positioning, suggesting radiation exposure can be safely eliminated in selected children undergoing CVP placement.
