Flow cytometric characterization of cecal appendix lymphocyte subpopulations in children: a pilot study

This pilot study uses flow cytometry to characterize immune cell populations in pediatric appendix tissue, finding that complicated appendicitis shows decreased B-lymphocytes and increased T- and NK-lymphocytes compared to uncomplicated cases. The findings suggest distinct immunological profiles correlate with appendicitis severity, warranting larger studies to explore diagnostic and prognostic applications.
