Outcomes of adult native liver survivors with biliary atresia: the current situation in Japan

This Japanese study examines long-term outcomes in 57 adult biliary atresia patients, revealing significant barriers to liver transplantation including limited living donors and prolonged deceased donor wait times. Non-survivors faced higher rates of portal hypertension and cirrhosis, with all six patients on the deceased donor waitlist dying after median 17-month waits.
