Is colostomy closure without mechanical bowel preparation safe in pediatric patients? A randomized clinical trial

Randomized trial of 79 pediatric patients demonstrates that colostomy closure without mechanical bowel preparation is safe and non-inferior to standard practice, with equivalent rates of surgical site infection and anastomotic leakage. Omitting bowel prep reduces hospital stay by 2 days and patient discomfort without increasing complications.
